Niagra Falls

Bucket List!!

Bucket list item #1 Niagara Falls, NY!! It’s been on the top of C’s list for years. Something about the overwhelming size and volume of water rushing over the falls every second had us both captivated. We were 100% tourist to a tee on Niagara day. We ohh’d and ahh’d at the top of the Horseshoe Falls to start our day and ended with fireworks over the falls. The water coming from the Canadian Rapids over the falls is moving so quickly it is mind numbing. We walked to 3 sister’s island to take a closer look and could have stayed there for hours if we there wasn’t more to see.

We hemmed and hawed about which tickets we should buy, everything cost money $20 here $20 there constantly. When we felt overwhelmed we just walked to the American and Bridal Veil falls. We watched the people below (Cave of the Winds) laughing in the falls and knew that was a ticket we needed to purchase. Cave of the Winds is a self-paced tour along a wooden deck (rebuilt yearly) that takes you up close and personal to the American Falls. You can stay relatively dry (booooring) or get completely soaked on the Hurricane Deck. Fireworks happen nightly at 9:00pm prompt they last 5 minutes exactly, but are absolutely worth staying late to see.

Our next great adventure was catching a ride on the Maid of the Mist Boat to see the base of the horse shoe falls. Again no real point in wearing the poncho as it didn’t keeps us dry at all, but it’s all for the Instagram photo ops I guess!Snapping pictures up close was pretty tricky as the water is obviously powerful and non stop. We loved every moment of being near the base feeling the mist spray us constantly. Our next great adventure was catching a ride on the Maid of the Mist Boat to seethe base of the horse shoe falls. Our best found Niagara Falls secret was finding the Whirlpool Rapid trail! We have never seen such enticingly blue/green water. The trailhead is located at the Four Mile State Park.
